The Un-Definitive Guide to Gaining Twitter Friends..

“You Gain Friends… You lose Followers”

Probably the most often asked question we see is…  ”how do you get so many followers?”

I don’t have a fail safe recipe for doing it but the following bits of ‘rambling info’ may help.

You Need the Right Tools

A successful job requires the right tools to ensure success..
To you and me that means the best Twitter apps for the devices you tweet with.

Mobile devices account for the vast majority of tweets so perhaps this is where you should start. Personally the vast majority of mine come from my iPhone.
In my opinion, official Twitter apps are generally feature-lacking for anyone other than the casual user.
This is mainly due to the lack of support for lists and customising the layout of icons such as removing the main timeline(which I rarely look at), the ability to quickly switch ‘geo-tagging’

There are masses of apps currently available and yes, I’ve pretty much tried them all at various times and again after any updates.

I always come back to ‘Twittelator Pro’ though it’s not perfect for me, it’s pretty close.
Link to the official website and excellent support. You can decide yourself.

How Do I Find People to Follow?

This is the interesting one and like any obstacle can be overcome in many different ways. You will probably have already done one of the following things or all of them!

Follow everyone

Follow loads of ‘celebs’

Follow a ‘team’ e.g.: #teamfollowback

Be clever and follow people that have the same interest as you! Ultimately you will get more from your Twitter experience and, in the process, learn more about your chosen field.

So How Do You Find Them?

The answer is LISTS and ‘directories’.
Like any service there are many websites which list users names. The better ones also list their interests as well.
Two great sites to check out are:

www.twellow.com

www.listorious.com

Many ‘tweeps’ also use lists of their own..

For me these are the key to getting more from Twitter.
Learning means you need to ask questions, no matter how silly they seem to you, the best way to do this?

Ask people who have the experience.

I have already covered ‘lists’ and their general use in a previous blog..

Follow Friday and Recommends from Friends

The hashtag #FollowFriday is one that is used on that day of the week to recommend friends to other people to follow..

It’s also one that can be annoying to some people to see it being done by  those who do it every day of the week or, a particular personal annoyance, using automated tools like ‘lazyshoutout’ to flood everyones timelines with masses of tweets.

Whilst every mention I receive is a welcome one, I always give mentions back to those who take the time to do ‘personal’ recommendations rather than promoting a robotic gesture..

All of  the above are powerful in gaining friends but nowhere near as successful what comes next… this combines everything into one place!

Tweepi.com

For me, this is one of the most powerful Twitter tools available, and (mostly) for FREE.

The site uses Twitter oauth for logging in, so does not require you to set up an account nor reveal your details directly to them.  Once logged in, it will present you with a brilliant list of options..

I will post a tutorial video of the process at a later date, for now I respectfully suggest you explore the site and make your own life easier..

The Gaining Friends Process in Easy Steps with Tweepi

  1. Know who has unfollowed/followed you.. always return the action
  2. Use the ‘follow lists’ function to follow people with similar interests. Do this regularly.
  3. go back to number 1
